You might be looking at the title of this piece and say huh? What does this have to do with the movie? But hold on for a sec there’s a method to my madness! 😛 As you may have noticed in my previous blog, I mentioned that Raazi and Veere Di Wedding were the two movies I was awaiting this year. (If you didn’t read the previous post go do that now! I’ll wait…)
Back? Great! So as I was saying these two movies were very good in their own separate ways – both with very different star casts, plots, and GENRES! They did very well at the box office as well. A reason I was looking forward to “Raazi” was primarily because seeing Alia in such a role was intriguing. From the trailer itself, you know this movie is not going to disapoint. Wait whahhh! You haven’t seen the trailer??? Come on get with the program! I’ll make it easier for you, take a peek here:
DAMNNN!! Right!?? One of the most gripping trailers overall and definitely the most seat-gripping I’ve seen of Alia’s movies.
So after all the wait I ended up going to watch the movie in theaters (I was psyched since it was playing locally and Hindi movies playing locally are quite rare!) I’ll try to not give out any spoilers just in case someone ponders on this and has yet to watch it. I really liked the plot and Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal in pivotal roles! All throughout I kept saying oh man she’s gonna get caught! Lol edge of the seat for sure! (Keep in mind though I’ve been slacking on watching movies lately and have not seen Alia in Dear Zindagi, Highway, or Udta Punjab as of yet, and because of this I really enjoyed watching her in Badri Ki Dulhania). But I felt like she did a really good job in terms of zero overacting! Pleasantly surprised and definitely worth a watch! After watching this movie I immediately had to take a look at some of Vicky’s previous movies. Vicky Kaushal did an awesome job as the male main lead and he wasn’t overshadowed by Alia Bhatt in any manner.

Yes, the movie was based on the female protagonist’s life, however just as the caption reads “Raazi – a daughter, a wife, a spy” the story follows through on depicting all of these aspects of Sehmat’s life while also breaking into song and dance – I mean come on that’s a given it’s Bollywood 101. If you haven’t listened to the songs take a looksy below for the Jukebox:
Furthermore, not only the main lead but the supporting cast is phenomenal and deserves a kudos. I’ve been following Amruta Khanvilkar from TV and it was great to see her as part of the supporting cast. Donning the “Bhabhi” role, she also has her own separate mini story within the movie. Almost like being Sehmat’s “Badi Behen,” Amruta along with the rest of the family welcomes an Indian Sehmat with open arms within the Pakistani family and comforts her. I think for me since I don’t know much about the war in 1971, this movie actually made me want to read the “Calling Sehmat” novel which it was based off of. Ultimately it was worth a watch and made me realize how versatile Alia could be! Don’t you dare miss it! Give it a watch asap! 😀
Hope y’all enjoyed the post and were able to relate! Let me know what you thought of the movie and also of any of your favorite movies this year! Leave your comments and share your thoughts below! Signing off for now until next week!
Yours Truly,
The Bollywood Buff! 🙂
