PC: Courtesy me when I went to go watch the film! If you haven’t already go watch it now!
As I’m sitting chatting with my cousins discussing the usual. All of a sudden I hear:
WHENNNN ARE YOU GETTING MARRIED!!??!
I mean what else could be of urgency during a family gathering am I right? Any-who I laugh, ignore, and then we go home. Everyone who knows me knows that I’m a night owl. That’s right the weekends are my favorite and I’ll go ahead and stay up watching yup you’ve guessed right…BOLLYWOOD movies!!! So you could imagine which movies I had on my list to go watch so far.
Veere Di Wedding and Raazi were the two that I was actually waiting and looking forward to watch in the theater. View the links to the trailers for both of these here:

I know it’s a tad bit late for this post but it’s needed at this point. So much has been said about the movie but nonetheless it was a phenomenal movie in my opinion. Look it’s no surprise that the movie isn’t family-friendly you could tell from the trailer itself! But then again, which movie in today’s time IS actually family friendly? This was a movie which would be an ideal girl’s movie night to catch up with your friends and think about your own journey together! Yes! The movie is not a Rajshri “Hum Saath Saath Hain” feature film, however it never acclaimed to be a Rajshri movie at all. In fact it this movie tested Bollywood norms as a whole. From divorce taboo, gay couples, to a woman’s desire to NOT get married. These were all valid topics which I’m sure more Indian women would like to have an open conversation about. Who cares if you’re thirty-something and have no desire to tie the knot?!!
My favorite dialogue from the film is when Sonam (who plays a kickass attorney as her ringtone in the film suggests who always has her “Veere’s” back) talks about education, upbringing, and yup MARRIAGE! Well I think it’s better for everyone to watch the clip take 30 seconds and WATCH THIS!! I kid you not many other women will agree with the clip:
VDW Dialogue #1 – VDW Dialogue
VDW Dialogue #2 – VDW Dialogue
In my opinion, these two dialogues are ON POINT! LMAO I personally would probably say both dialogues depending on the situation “bloody mother lover” hahaha all I can say there is PREACH Sonam PREACH! No matter how much you study, build a career, or succeed, at the end of the day it all will come back to whether you’ve gotten married yet or not. And if you’re thinking well, I’m already married I’m in the clear..Nope..not true – no kids yet? Get on that because that’s the next topic that will be up for discussion. Not like you’ve asked for unfiltered comments being shot your way or anything, but we all know it’s the same in all desi families. Everyone just loves to add their two cents in anything they can!
I’m not saying this film portrays all south asian families, but what I am saying is that this film does a pretty damn good job at taking certain topics and shedding some light on them from a women’s prerogative. Now how the heck is that negative???!!
I don’t care about what anyone says but Swara Bhaskar rocked in this movie and I expected nothing less! She is the underdog and I love that about her. Across all of her films she’s always shown a different shade. From Ranjhanaa, to Prem Ratan Dhaan Payo (mind you this was a Rajshri film – so she is versatile), to Veere Di Wedding, she’s done a fantabulous job.
Another thing I loved about this film was the variety of characters from Bhavani to Rishabh, it reminds us women that we shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, AND we should NEVER EVER SETTLE for less!
Overall, this film is a portrayal of four strong-willed women and their individual journeys as well as their journey together within their friendship. Those four “chaddi baddis” who grew up together and their ups and downs and how they individually deal with life’s struggles as well as how they deal with these struggles together and yes all of this while breaking into songs. Great songs if I can add myself. My favorite songs from the film were: Tareefan, Veere, Bass Gira De Raja, and Tareefan Reprise. See I’m the best so I’ve added the jukebox link below:
AND Tareefan Reprise by Lisa Mishra:
Come on guys it’s a film 😉 So shoot me if I want to watch a massy, comedy, film with my girls instead of a content-driven film one weekend! You know what, I would watch this film over and over again and you better believe I WILL be purchasing this movie once it’s out on DVD to add to my Bollywood collection. So if you haven’t watched it yet! GO NOW!
